It's All About Second Chances
We offer high school equivalency (HSE) preparation classes to adults who have not earned a high school diploma. There are two (2) different national HSE assessment tests: General Educational Development Test (GED Test) and High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). States across the nation offer examinees a choice of one or both. Each assessment test focuses on five subject areas: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. They measure the examinee's level of achievement relative to that of graduating high school seniors, and career and college readiness, as outlined by the Common Core State Standards.
Class Requirements
Individuals interested in participating in these classes are required to take a pre-test which is equivalent to grades 6-8.9. This test is used as a gauge to determine basic competency levels in writing, reading, and mathematics.
The curriculum is then tailored to the participant tested grade level, ranging from Adult Basic Education Literacy (0-1.9) through Adult Secondary Education (11-12.9). Coursework includes writing, reading, mathematics, social studies, and science. Acquiring self-confidence and self-esteem to re-enter an academic environment are also emphasized.
